Jeni Rector, LM, CPM

Jeni Rector The Rector Tribe

My name is Jeni Rector.  I became a Certified Professional Midwife in August of 2007 and the 31st Licensed Midwife in the Commonwealth of Virginia shortly thereafter!.  Before that, I apprenticed under the steady, experienced hands of Jenny Derugen, LM, CPM and Robin Weisbrod, MSN, RN, BSN, BS.    I have attended over 100 women as a midwife, birth attendant and doula since 2000.  Read recommendation letters here!

Birth brings you closer as a couple when everyone is respectful of who you are - that you (as a couple) created this life, that you (as a couple) can bring this life into this world and that this is the very thing the Lord designed you (as a couple) to do!!!  So often dads are pushed into the corner and moms are treated as beings on a table.  I want every dad to feel like he is an integral part of this process, that He makes a difference!! And I want every mom to know that she is the absolute center of my universe while she is in labor.  YOU CAN DO THIS!! And I will do everything I can to help you!  God put me here to help create families and to empower moms AND dads to take charge of their families from the very beginning.  I believe in Women!  I believe in Dads!  I believe in Families!

  • I am 38 years old.

  • I have been married to the Greatest guy on Earth since 1990.

  • I am the home schooling mom of 6 incredible children, four dogs, two ferrets, a bearded dragon, four cats, one bunny, a tank of fish, three ball pythons, and a bundle of teenagers that I swear I didn't give birth to but seem to live in my house and eat out of my fridge!

  • I have given birth under just about every circumstance there is (read my birth stories here) so, I feel like I can certainly relate to ALL pregnant and laboring women.

  • I am a Coordinating Committee member, Commonwealth Midwives Alliance

  • I am on the Executive Board of the Commonwealth Midwives Alliance, serving as Treasurer.

  • I am a member of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood

  • I am a member of Birth Matters VA

My beliefs about birth:

  • I believe that "Children are a heritage of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is His reward."
    (Psalm 127:3)

  • I believe that life begins at conception and that the Lord has a plan for each and every life He puts in the womb!

  • I believe that birth is just as much spiritual as it is physical (and boy is it ever a physical process).

  • I believe in the the right to choose the caregiver and place of care in which to http://www.heritagehomebirth.com/images/spacer2.jpghave a baby.

  • I believe that when parents are given good information  and are prepared for childbirth, it is a blessed experience that brings them closer together .

  • I believe that pregnancy and birth are natural, normal events and that for the majority of pregnancies and births, medical intervention is entirely inappropriate, and results in unnecessary complications for moms and babies.

  • I am not "anti-doctor" or "anti-hospital." I believe that there is a time and a place for doctors and hospitals - it is just not every time and every place and certainly not for everyone.  I am thankful for the terrific doctors, nurses and hospitals that we have in our area. I do not hesitate to refer to a physician or to transport to a hospital if it becomes necessary to do so.  The goal is a healthy mom and baby - homebirth is the icing on the cake!

  • I believe that counting to ten does NOT help a baby come into this world any faster!

I love to talk about birth with pregnant moms and new moms.  Pregnancy and Motherhood are JOYFUL times full of Highs and Lows and I believe that my place on this earth is to lend a helping hand (or an ear) when it is needed.  If you are a woman in a crisis pregnancy situation, do not hesitate to contact me or the folks at the CareNet Pregnancy Center - there are MANY solutions and options for you.

Feel free to call or drop me a line via email to chat about babies, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding or midwifery issues.
